San Francisco 49ers receive massive last-minute boost ahead of Monday Night Football showdown with Washington Commanders

After missing an entire week of practice while dealing with multiple injuries, Mike Evans has delivered a major boost to the 49ers ahead of their matchup with Washington.

Could the San Francisco 49ers get a better piece of news before kickoff against the Washington Commanders? I don’t think so. Wide receiver Mike Evans will be active for the 49ers on Monday Night Football. He didn’t practice all week while dealing with achilles soreness and the lingering effects of his rib injury.

Evans not practicing a single day all week is usually a bad sign for a game-time decision. This time, San Francisco gets its top playmaker on the perimeter back, and that matters.

Mike Evans fights through 2 injuries to suit up

Look, Evans has been dealing with a lot. He suffered fractured ribs in Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals, and he’s been playing through the effects of that injury ever since. The Achilles soreness made his status even harder to predict, especially with no practice reps all week.

Now, I’ll admit I wasn’t sure which way this one would go. A receiver who misses a full week of practice with two different issues usually doesn’t play. Evans is still suiting up, and that tells you everything about how much he wants to be on the field for this team.

The 49ers need him out there. Brock Purdy has clearly shown to lean on him a ton this season, and there was not a time where it was more evident than in the win over Seattle. Evans gives San Francisco a proven option on the outside who can win contested catches and stretch a defense.

His presence alone changes how a defense has to line up. Getting him active gives the offense its full set of weapons for a prime-time game.

A golden opportunity against a struggling Washington team

Make no mistake, this is a great spot for the 49ers. San Francisco is undefeated at home and gets a chance to keep that streak alive against a Commanders team with just one win. Washington has struggled badly, and a home prime-time game against a team in that position is the kind of matchup the 49ers should win. The Commanders will have receiver Stefon Diggs active, but they will be without running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt.

Monday Night Football has also been very kind to the 49ers over the years. Here’s how their history on Monday nights stacks up across the league:

– Tied for the most Monday Night Football wins in the NFL at 55 – First in points scored per game at 25.8 – Second in opponents’ points per game at 17.4 – First in point differential at 8.4

Those numbers are no fluke. San Francisco has a long history of showing up on Monday nights by scoring points and keeping opponents off the board. Few franchises can match that track record under the lights.

Obviously, history doesn’t win a football game by itself. The players on the field still have to execute, and a desperate team can always make things uncomfortable. Washington will be looking for anything to turn its season around, and a road upset on Monday night would do exactly that.

Why the 49ers should keep rolling

With that being said, everything points in San Francisco’s direction. The 49ers are healthy enough at receiver with Evans back, they’re playing at home, and they’re facing a Commanders team that hasn’t found answers all season long.

I think the 49ers handle business. Evans’ return gives the offense a boost, the home crowd will be loud, and Washington simply hasn’t shown it can hang with a team of San Francisco’s caliber. Expect the 49ers to stay perfect at home against the Commanders and add another win to their Monday Night Football résumé.
