Robert Saleh gives exciting update on Titans’ preseason plans, attempting to do joint practices bigger than fans have ever seen
The Titans are working to finalize their training camp plans to practice with every preseason opponent they have. Head Coach Robert Saleh is a massive proponent of joint practices, and he has big plans in Year 1.
Tennessee Titans head coach Robert Saleh means it when he says he loves joint practices.
These friendly inter-squad practices NFL teams are increasingly holding during the preseason are total fan favorites. They’re often lauded as more competitive and indicative of team strengths and weaknesses than the actual preseason games. And one of the first things Saleh put his stamp on once becoming the Titans’ new head coach was his desire to lean into them.
“I am a big proponent of joint practices,” he told the media at this spring’s Owners Meetings in Phoenix. At that time, he’d formally requested one with the Carolina Panthers and expressed his interest in talking to the other two opponents as well.
But when the NFL schedule came out, the Panthers were no longer on the preseason schedule. So will the Titans get any joint practices after all? We finally got an update this week.
Robert Saleh wants three different joint practices in preseason
At the second OTA practice available to media, Saleh doubled-down on his intention to have a many joint practices as he can.
“Yeah, the goal—we haven’t ironed out the full details yet, but the goal is to inter-squad with all three teams,” he told the media.
The AFC gets one fewer regular season home game this year, meaning they host one extra preseason game in return. The Titans’ only preseason road trip is in Week 1, then they’re home for a pair of preseason matchups and a pair of home games before leaving the city of Nashville over 40 days later.
Here’s the Titans’ preseason schedule:
- Preseason Week 1: at San Francisco 49ers – details TBD, weekend of August 15-16
- Preseason Week 2: vs. Seattle Seahawks – Sunday, August 23, 2026, 7:00 PM CDT on FOX
- • Preseason Week 3: vs. Chicago Bears – details TBD, weekend of August 29-30
As far back as I can find records of, I don’t believe the Titans have ever done three joint practices with three different teams before. Saleh’s personal philosophy is that you shouldn’t do them with a team twice in a week, but just the once. He (in my experience, correctly) thinks that most second practices devolve into a bunch of unproductive fighting between teams. So if they can get them approved and scheduled, this will be three one-off days of excitement in August.
Saleh’s personal connection with the 49ers makes a rare Week 1 joint practice travel plan a reasonable expectation. Taking his new team out west to work with Kyle Shanahan and his old team would be a treat. And seeing how the Titans stack up against the Bears and the Seahawks here in Nashville will be a great measuring stick as well. Here’s to hoping they get this done.
