The Tennessee Titans have fired head coach Mike Vrabel. In a surprising move, owner Amy Adams Strunk and co. chose to go in a new direction, alongside general manager Ran Carthon.
In an interview with Mike Keith, Strunk broke down the decision in full. The Titans owner went into detail about why the Titans did not trade Vrabel.
Strunk said that there was consideration in trading Vrabel. That being said, a coach's contract is different than a player's contract. A coach must be a willing partner in the trade in order for the move to happen. It's not quite as simple as a player deal.
That barrier, along with the fear of missing out on top replacement candidates, headlined the reasoning for not exploring a trade further.
Strunk called the firing one of the most difficult decisions that she has had to make for the organization.
Moving on from Vrabel clearly was not an easy choice – not one that they came to in a quickly manner. She noted that the disarray with the team's performance grew throughout the season, and ultimately, they felt the need to make the move.
In time, we'll see if it was the correct one.
The Titans will get started on their search quickly. Ran Carthon and his team will begin requesting interviews with candidates very soon.
