With about two weeks to go until the 2025 NFL Draft, the draft board is starting to come into focus. For the Buffalo Bills, there's plenty of needs, but ESPN's Field Yates has a clear direction that he believes Brandon Beane needs to address —and it's not on the defensive line.
For Yates, addressing the second cornerback spot is a top priority for Buffalo in this draft class, and I agree — it is clearly the biggest hole on the roster as it stands today.
"I think corner (is the position) that comes to mind first and finding a player that fits into what they want to do defensively," Yates told 7 Sports about the Bills' needs in the 2025 NFL Draft. Yates went on to say that Buffalo, and Sean McDermott in particular, have shown a tremendous ability to develop cornerbacks, most recently evidenced by former 6th-round pick Christian Benford emerging into one of the best corners in the league.
"They've maybe had more success in the later portions of the draft with corners than in the early portions of the draft. But that being said, it's going to be hard to resist if one of these top corners is available either with their first-round pick or one of those two second-round picks in the back half of the round," Yates added.
Yates has one corner in particular that he thinks would be a dream fit.
[Ole Miss cornerback Trey] Amos is probably the one that I think about the most often for the Bills, just because the style of play they want to roll out defensively, and then also the style of play that Amos has available in his bag."
Amos is a familiar name as an option for the Bills, but there's definitely a section of Bills Mafia that will not be thrilled with the idea of taking a first round cornerback.
I respectfully couldn't disagree more with those that don't like that plan of attack. If there's a run on defensive tackles in particular before the Bills are on the clock, then taking a cornerback with solid starter upside at a direct position of need, especially a position that the Bills have shown so much ability in developing (yes, I know. Kaiir Elam), then it's a great option. Corner will be one of the biggest priorities for Beane in this draft, it's just a matter of what round they address it.
Buffalo is hosting a defensive tackle for a pre-draft visit that could be a huge indicator of what the Bills are looking for
There’s a lot of Bills fans that would love this pick.
