Cincinnati has several glaring needs that need attention. Stewart is a gigantic bet toward fixing the defense's pass-rushing woes, but more help is needed alongside him and behind him. The issue with the interior of the offensive line also remains at large.
Stewart's arrival does slightly alter how I see Friday night going down for the Bengals compared to my final mock draft from earlier in the week. Let's take a look.
Round 2, Pick 49: LSU OL Emery Jones Jr.
Eight offensive linemen went off the board Thursday night. The Bengals' best chance at finding a starting-caliber guard may be when they're on the clock in the middle of the second round, and their top options may already be gone.
This is how a guy like Jones enters the equation. Regarded as a third-round pick in accordance to the consensus, Jones projects to move inside to guard after he started three years at right tackle for LSU. He carries ideal size for the position and is still just 21 years old.
Jones' upside is what Cincinnati could use to justify picking him at this juncture, assuming the run on OL continues in the top half of the second round. The team also brought him in for a 30 visit.
Round 3, Pick 81: Nebraska DT Ty Robinson
Because the Bengals didn't draft a defensive tackle in the first round, I think a Day 2 pick at the position becomes very likely. Finding interior pass rush is still a glaring need on the roster, and Robinson could provide that as a rookie.
Robinson, who turns 24 next week, would be one of the oldest players the Bengals have drafted in a while. He played six years at Nebraska, where head coach Zac Taylor played nearly 20 years ago, and left the program a refined player against the pass. He tested very well at the NFL Scouting Combine, and met with the Bengals this month.
Robinson and Stewart would round out Cincinnati's defensive line group and allow the club to focus on other needs on Day 3.
