The New England Patriots' second-round pick is officially in!

With the 38th overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, the New England Patriots selected Ohio State TreVeyon Henderson

The Patriots add a very talented running back to the offense, joining Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson. It's a move that truly shows New England was going to take the best player available.

Everything to know about TreVeyon Henderson

This is a pick that is also going to make new offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels very happy.

Last season, the Patriots said they play to run the ball a lot, but we all saw how that worked out. However, now that they have used their first round pick on a tackle to improve the line, and that will make the run game even better.

Plus, Stevenson had a problem with fumbling last season, whereas Henderson finished the year with no fumbles. In 2024, he rushed for 1,016 yards in 144 carries and 10 touchdowns in the team's National Championship run. He can also contribute on the receiving side, with 27 receptions for 284 yards and one receiving touchdown.

This wasn't the most needed position for the Patriots to target so early in the draft, but it seems they thought Henderson was too good to pass up.

A to Z Sports' Draft Expert Rob Gregson provided some more context on what Henderson brings to the table.

"I know TreVeyon Henderson had a bit of an up-and-down career with the Ohio State Buckeyes due to some injuries, but he's one of the more explosive players in this class. You can turn on his tape and see countless long runs that turn into home runs the second he hits any open space. He runs a 4.43-second forty-yard dash. He's lightning with the ball in his hands. Add in some of the best pass protection in the entire class plus pass-catching ability, and there's no reason (outside of size and durability concerns) that he isn't a three-down back that puts together a solid NFL career. Some might see him as a change-up player, but I think his tape and traits are indicative of a starter with a lengthy prime," Gregson writes.
