NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Chris Godwin is re-signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a three-year contract for $66 million.
Rapoport added that Godwin passed up an additional $20 million to remain in Tampa Bay. And while he wouldn't name the exact team that was willing to offer that, he heavily implied that it was the Patriots by saying that they are "in on everyone."
It was known that Godwin preferred to stay with the Buccaneers, but to pass up that much money is not a good look for the Patriots.
New England needs a star receiver, but there aren't that many remaining. It might be in their best interest to look towards a potential trade, specifically calling about 49ers' Brandon Aiyuk and Bengals' Tee Higgins.
The Patriots are expected to be aggressive throughout free agency considering they have the money to do it, but the question is do players want to come? New England is no longer a top destination.
So far, they have signed former Tennessee Titans linebacker Harold Landry to a three-year deal, reuniting him with Mike Vrabel. And then, they brought back tight end Austin Hooper for another season.
Hopefully, they are able to land some players in the coming hours and days.
