Star wide receiver DK Metcalf has requested a trade from the Seattle Seahawks, per NFL insider Tom Pelissero.

Metcalf and the Seahawks were unable to come to an agreement regarding his contract during a series of conversations over the past couple of weeks. Metcalf has one year remaining on his contract, in which he is due $18 million.

The Seahawks' salary cap situation was a mess entering the offseason, leading them to release several veteran players, including one of their best in franchise history, WR Tyler Lockett

Making those moves have put the Seahawks in solid shape with the cap, but will be in a really nice position after dealing Metcalf. However, it will be a double-edge sword effect as Seattle is set to lose two of its top three WRs.

It appears that the Seahawks' offense is heading towards a soft rebuild. It has a franchise quarterback in Geno Smith, and WR Jaxson Smith-Njigba had a breakout year in 2024, but needs quality depth behind him and an upgrade at tight end. The running back position is also a bit shaky as starter Kenneth Walker has just one year remaining on his contract.

Seattle is going to have to make some key free agent signings and have a good draft if it's going to continue to stay competitive. That starts with getting the best possible deal for Metcalf, as he will definitely have a strong market. Watch for him to be dealt to a team that feels it is a legitimate WR away from a Super Bowl run.

A second-round pick in 2019, Metcalf has had an excellent six-year career with the Seahawks, featuring three seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards. In total he recorded 438 receptions, 6,324 yards, and 48 touchdowns in 97 games played. Metcalf has been named to the Pro Bowl twice, and was Second-Team All-Pro in 2020.
