The Indianapolis Colts have seen the majority of their in-house free agents sign elsewhere this offseason.

A new one was added to the list this week: the team's 2020 7th-round pick, Sam Ehlinger, left the Colts to sign with the Denver Broncos.

The Colts haven't had an issue moving off late draft picks in the past, but Sam Ehlinger stuck around for his entire rookie contract despite only being a 7th-round pick. He ended up staying with the team for four years, appeared in eight games, and even made three starts.

Ehlinger didn't make much of an impact on the field he attempted 101 passes, completing 64 of them for 573 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. During his time here, though, he became respected by coaches and players in the locker room. Recently, he became a vital part of Anthony Richardson's NFL experience. Richardson has faced a lot of adversity during his short two-year NFL career, and he shared that Ehlinger was an invaluable teammate he could lean on during hard times.

Losing Ehlinger will probably lead the Colts to add another QB somehow this offseason. We will have to wait and see whether that is through the draft or free agency. The team currently has three QBs on their roster: Richardson, Daniel Jones, and Jason Bean. Adding competition for their emergency QB 3 role with Bean is bound to happen. The team has been linked to multiple day-three rookie QBs already, so maybe they elect to use a late day-three pick to replace Ehlinger in the same way they landed him in 2021.
