Quarterback recruiting has been a completely different world different under head coach Marcus Freeman since he took over the Notre Dame program. The last few recruiting classes have been tremendous under this new staff, and has completely replenished a room that needed it desperately. Names like CJ Carr, Kenny Minchey, Blake Hebert, and Noah Grubbs have upgraded that group in a big way.

That momentum under offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and quarterback coach Gino Guidugli should continue into the 2027 recruiting class, where it looks like another great year to need a talented signal caller. One of the more talented quarterbacks in that class early is Benton (Louis.) High School star Malachi Ziegler. There appears to be some early interest from Zeigler, who has set his first visit to South Bend.

The 6-3, 195-pound passer will be taking his trip to Notre Dame from March 27-28. Zeigler is currently rated as a four-star recruit by On3, 247Sports, and Rivals, the three major recruiting platforms that have ranked him so far. Funny enough, each platform has Zeigler ranked as the No. 48 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class. Zeigler is also pegged as a top-seven quarterback on each platform as well.

Some impressive programs have already been pursuing Zeigler, even as just a sophomore. Zeigler currently holds offers from Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, TCU, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Texas Tech, Baylor, SMU, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Jackson State, and Grambling State. Schools like Texas, LSU, and Texas A&M have also demonstrated major interest as well.

While Benton High School is about four hours from LSU, Notre Dame potentially pursuing a player from the state of Louisiana is very interesting. Zeigler is located right between Texas and Lousiana, which brings a ton of high level programs that will undoubtedly have interest. Notre Dame doesn't currently have an offer out to any 2027 signal callers, but that could eventually change with Zeigler.
