When taking a look at mock drafts, we have found 35 different prospects sent to the Vikings since the beginning of 2025. That kind of variety makes things a little difficult to predict, which also speaks to the volatility of this draft class.
Vikings take star running back in latest mock draft
There are a lot of talented running backs in this draft class and the first round has been a place where the Vikings could take one.
Our own Destin Adams at A to Z Sports released a three-round mock draft and he sent a very talented running back to the Vikings in North Carolina's Omarion Hampton.
The Vikings went the veteran route at RB last year with Aaron Jones. But finding a long-term answer in the run game is a big need this offseason. Omarion Hampton out of North Carolina is closer to Jeanty for RB 1 than some people realize. He would be a day-one starter, and would elevate the Vikings run game tremendously.
This one is a very interesting selection. Hampton is a great prospect who has all the power and explosiveness you can ask for from a running back. However, there are some questions about whether or not he fits what the Vikings want to do.
Hampton is a talented running back, but he might be better suited for a gap scheme. His lateral quickness isn't quite there to maximize what the Vikings like to do with their outside zone running scheme.
However, the Vikings might be willing to modify their run scheme to more of a power format to match the kind of offensive linemen to enhance their pass blocking. Hampton is certainly worth a first-round pick and would be the best running back the Vikings have had since Dalvin Cook.
