The Carolina Panthers saw the opportunity to do something special after the 2025 NFL Draft wrapped up Saturday and they went for it. General manager Dan Morgan decided that Carolina should give Muhsin "Moose" Muhammad III (WR, Texas A&M) a shot with his father's former team, signing him on Sunday.

Muhsin Muhammad's father of course played 11 seasons for Carolina in the late 1990s and 2000s, racking up nearly 700 receptions for over 9000 yards and 50 touchdowns while with the Panthers. Those marks all rank second in franchise history behind only Steve Smith Sr.

Muhsin Muhammad III, WR Texas A&M

Moose Muhammad III began his college football career as a highly rated four star wide receiver with Texas A&M back in 2020. He didn't see significant action until his second season, and really began to hit his stride back in 2022 as he tallied over 600 yards with four touchdowns.

Muhammad always showed incredible flashes of potential greatness, but also had quite the up and down career with some fans and analysts labeling him a bit of a "head case".

Muhammad never put together another season like 2022 as multiple coaching staffs continually talked about his struggles with consistency leading to his diminished role over his final two seasons with the Aggies. Any time he would see the field for a significant run Moose would make a "wow" play here and there, but for some reason his role and production dropped off completely in his final season.

If Muhammad can pull things together throughout this summer, showing much improved consistency with his work ethic and route running he could compete to earn the backup slot wide receiver role in year one. It's likely a long shot at this point given his up and down college career, but his talent is there.

If he can learn from guys like Adam Thielen and Hunter Renfrow (who just signed with the team), Moose could compete to win the slot wide receiver role long-term sometime after this year for Carolina. Let's hope he can, so Panthers fans get to root for the son one of their best players in franchise history for a long time.
