For what feels like the millionth time over the last several weeks, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman is once again linked to the Chicago Bears head coaching job. A report was put out by NFL Network reporter Tom Peliserro, stating that Chicago is looking to set up an interview.

“The Bears have done extensive research for months and months on Marcus Freeman,” Peliserro said. “He’s only 39 years old. Would not be shocked if at some point he at least considers heading to the NFL.”

This is not the first time that Chicago has been linked to Coach Freeman. Before he signed his lucrative four-year extension with the Fighting Irish back in December, the rumors were swirling around that potential connection. A big reason why the contract was signed at that point was so that those reports would stop.

Yet here we are, right before Coach Freeman and his Notre Dame squad are set to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in the national championship game just eight days from now. That should be where all of the concentration goes, but this distraction continues. It couldn’t be coming at a worse time.

Unless his mindset has changed, the Bears are not a job that Coach Freeman is seriously going to consider this time around. He has made his intentions very well known, being a part of the Notre Dame program for the foreseeable future. That is his vision for himself right now.

It is very understandable why Chicago would have so much interest. As Pelissero stated, Coach Freeman is a younger coach who brings a magnetic personality to the table. He is also improving very quickly as a head coach, holding a 33-9 overall record with the Irish. Notre Dame is also set to compete in their first national championship since 2012.

As of now, there is nothing to be worried about for Irish fans. Coach Freeman is a tremendous young head coach that has a lot to offer to a program of organization. This won’t be the last job he is rumored with.
