A Tennessee Vols fan favorite teased a potential change for the 2025 season on social media on Saturday morning.
Vols true freshman defensive back Boo Carter, who recently announced a new NIL deal with Vol Club (which means he's returning to Tennessee in 2025), is expected to see time on offense next season.
That might not be the only change for Carter in 2025.
Carter posted a graphic to his Instagram story on Saturday that indicates he's considering switching from No. 23 to No. 6 in 2025.

It's not uncommon for players to change numbers from season to season at the collegiate level. Ahead of the 2024 season, Squirrel White, for example, switched from No. 10 to No. 3 and Bru McCoy switched from No. 15 to No. 5.
There's just one problem with Carter's idea.
In 2024, running back Dylan Sampson, who recently declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, wore No. 6 for the Vols on the offensive side of the ball while cornerback Jalen McMurray wore No. 6 on the defensive side of the ball.
With Carter expected to play on both sides of the ball in 2025, he would need McMurray to give up the No. 6.
Maybe Carter could make a deal with McMurray for the number (we see that all the time in professional sports). Or maybe McMurray will consider a number change, which would free up No. 6 for Carter.
Either way, there's a chance that we see Boo Carter take the field for the Vols in 2025 with a new number.
Important offseason decision just became a no brainer for Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel
Should be an easy call for Heupel
