The Green Bay Packers used a third-round pick to select running back MarShawn Lloyd. He showed some flashes in training camp, but the regular season was a nightmare for the rookie. Now, his 2024 season is officially over.

Lloyd announced on social media that he won't return for the playoffs.

"Dear Rookie Year. Thank you! Adversity is nothing new to me," Lloyd wrote. "Although I was not able to play this year, I appreciate the challenge. I will use this time to get my health back and get ready for next season. Watch me work!"

According to Tom Silverstein from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the reason to end Lloyd's season is not the appendicitis. The running back "aggravated a hamstring injury he had suffered in training camp and wasn't able to return to practice even after he had healed from the appendectomy."

As a rookie, MarShawn Lloyd suffered a sprained ankle, a hamstring sprain, and appendicitis. After all, he ended up playing only one regular season game, against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2. He had six carries for 15 yards and a reception for three yards.

Depth

Even though MarShawn Lloyd and AJ Dillon are out for the season, the Packers have a comfortable situation at running back.

Josh Jacobs is the star and was named a Pro Bowler. Meanwhile, the backups are Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks, who had a solid regular season. On the practice squad, the Packers had to place Ellis Merriweather on the injured list, but then signed rookie Deshaun Fenwick.
