FOXBOROUGH, Mass – The New England Patriots head coaching search has officially began. And there is one name that everyone has their eye on.
It's been reported that former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel has been keeping an eye on this potential opening in recent weeks. He is a former Patriots player who also has head coaching experience, which is exactly what the Kraft's should be looking for.
So, when speaking with reporters on Monday, Patriots owner Robert Kraft was asked directly if Vrabel is at or near the top of his list.
"Before I make a comment like that, I don't know all the people involved, and there are some wonderful people that we've heard about," Kraft responded. "So, I'd rather respond to that after I've seen everyone."
Kraft confirmed that he and his son Jonathan are going to spearhead the coaching search, and will be helped by Eliot Wolf and Alonzo Highsmith.
And they wasted no time, with multiple reports that the Patriots have put in a request to interview Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
However, the Krafts plans to conduct many interviews to find the perfect fit.
"Well, we want to interview as many people as we can that we think can help us get to that position that we want to be in," Kraft said. "So, we have put out requests."
However, Vrabel to the Patriots makes a lot of sense.
And it's worth noting that the timing of all of this has been very interesting. Vrabel interviewed with the Jets last week, which many believed was somewhat of a tactic to scare the Patriots.
If that was the case, it clearly worked.
So, now all we can do is sit back and wait to see what happens.
