Despite not being the starting quarterback anymore, Jacoby Brissett has still gone out for the coin toss with the other captains each and every game.

And Saturday was no different.

However, there was one key thing missing. And that was the "C" on his jersey, indicating that he is no longer a Patriots captain.

But, on Monday morning, head coach Jerod Mayo cleared all that up.

"No. He's still a captain," Mayo said.

The reporter followed it up by asking if the patch was just left off his jersey?

"Yes," he responded.

Brissett has proved to be a true professional, given all he has gone through in New England this season.

He was originally named the starter, with Mayo saying he is fully behind Brissett. But then, the team benched him in favor of rookie quarterback Drake Maye.

He could have been upset over all this. But instead, he has been more involved than ever, becoming a mentor for Maye. And the rookie has continued to praise Brissett over and over again throughout the season.

Plus, it was also very telling when Brissett spoke with A to Z Sports about the rumors regarding Mayo's job security. Based on what's happened, he could have chosen to not comment. But instead, he defended Mayo fully.

"Everybody always got something to say. Especially when things don't go the way people want them to go, and that's just childish," Brissett said. "That's the stupidest thing out there that I probably could ever hear."

So, Brissett is still a captain and rightfully so.
