The Indianapolis Colts' playoff chances are officially on life support following their Week 15 loss to the Denver Broncos.
What makes this loss sting even more is knowing the Colts were in a position to take a two-score lead in the third quarter, and they fumbled the opportunity, literally.
The biggest mistake of Jonathan Taylor's career
To begin the third quarter, the Colts' defense got a big stop, and their offense responded by opening up a big hole for star running back Jonathan Taylor, who ripped off what would have been roughly a 40-yard touchdown. But then tragedy struck with Taylor doing the unthinkable: he dropped the ball before crossing the endzone, resulting in a touchback.
So, instead of the Colts going up 20-7 with all the momentum in the world on their side, the score remained 13-7, and the ball went back to the Broncos. Denver would capitalize on the momentum shift and never give it up as they went on a 24 to 0 run to finish the game, resulting in a 31-13 loss for the Colts.
The past few years have had some all-time low moments. Losing to a two-win Jacksonville Jaguars team in the final week of 2022, Tyler Goodson drooping an easy 4th down conversion to lose the chance to win the AFC South to the Houston Texans, and now Taylor dropping the ball at the inch line to completely flip a must-win game from on the verge of a win to a three-score loss. Bad teams find ways to lose games, and the Colts keep trying to tell us they are a bad team; we just didn't want to listen.
Jonathan Taylor's thoughts on his big mistake
"They said I didn't cross the goal line. That can't happen."
"No matter the game no matter the scenario, you could be up by 50, down by 50, a playoff game, first game of the season that should never happen."
"I just know we have six less points, I do know if i would have crossed the gaol line with the ball we would have had six more points. I dont know how it would have played out after that but I know we would have had six more points."
"I appolizie and that will never happen again."
