The Kansas City Chiefs made the DeAndre Hopkins trade official on Thursday morning and had another surprise waiting for the Chiefs Kingdom.

To make room on the 53-man roster for Hopkins, the Chiefs placed another wide receiver on injured reserve. Third-year WR Skyy Moore joins Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice on IR after suffering a core muscle injury. That makes three wide receivers on injured reserve and four receivers currently dealing with injuries that will keep them out of Week 8's game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Fans won't be crying over this loss, as Moore had yet to record a reception during the 2024 NFL season despite being targeted twice and playing over 80 offensive snaps. The former second-round pick just can't seem to get his footing in this offense and has become a liability on the field.

Moore did not appear on Wednesday's injury report, so this move seems rather sudden for the Chiefs. It also suggests that Brett Veach might not be done making additions at wide receiver ahead of the upcoming NFL trade deadline.

It begs the question: What will they do at wide receiver for their upcoming game? They have just three healthy receivers on the 53-man roster right now in Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, and Mecole Hardman to go along with Hopkins, who just arrived on Thursday.

JuJu Smith-Schuster has already been ruled out for Week 8 against the Raiders. They have four receivers on the practice squad in Justyn Ross, Montrell Washington, Nikko Remigio, and Cornell Powell. Expect that one or two of those players will be elevated to the 53-man roster for Sunday's game.

As for the long-term outlook, Moore will miss the next four games (Raiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills) at a minimum. The earliest he could return is Week 12 vs. the Carolina Panthers.
