FOXBOROUGH, Mass – Tuesday was a surprisingly quiet day in Foxborough.
With a 2-7 record, the New England Patriots were a team that many considered to be sellers at the 2024 Trade Deadline. And there were a few different players that were involved in trade rumors.
One of them was defensive tackle Davon Godchaux.
It can be hard to ignore the outside noise in moments like this, but for Godchaux, his focus was only on the football field.
"I don't really care about it," he told A to Z Sports. "I don't really care about all that stuff. I didn't hear from my agent. So I didn't care about it."
"It's just rumors," he added.
So what was his mindset throughout the past week?
"Just being where my feet are," he said.
The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported on Tuesday that Godchaux was one of four players the Patriots have been receiving calls on.
But they have already lost Christian Barmore, who has been sidelined indefinitely due to blood clots. So losing Godchaux with all the other struggles on the defensive side of the ball was not something the Patriots were willing to do.
So far this season, Godchaux has 33 total tackles and one pass defended across nine games played.
Throughout his entire career, he has a total of 395 tackles, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and three passes defended through 112 games.
While he might not have the captains patch, the eight-year veteran is someone this team needs considering how young the roster currently is. And it seems the coaching staff agrees.
