Bills' key defensive player picks up another win days after massive victory over the Chiefs

Like everyone expected, the battle between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs was another classic, just like they seemingly are every time these two great franchises meet. That's what happens when you have two of the game's best quarterbacks going toe-to-toe, with both teams possessing disciplined defenses. They're about as evenly matched, on paper, as it gets.

The Bills still need to jump that hurdle in the playoffs, but Sunday's performance shows that they have what it takes to give Kansas City a legitimate fight (probably more legitimate than Tyson vs Paul, but I digress).

Instrumental to the Bills' victory was the performance of linebacker Terrel Bernard, who has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts.

Bernard is the sixth different Bills player to earn a player of the week award this season, and it's the second time Bernard has logged the award in his career.

Against the Chiefs, Bernard led the team with eight tackles, logged a sack on Patrick Mahomes, and sealed the victory with a game-ending interception deep down the field.

Bernard has emerged into a superstar linebacker over the last two seasons, something that has been a remarkably pleasant surprise for the Bills. Coming out of this week's bye, the expectation is that he'll have the benefit of Matt Milano returning as the weak side linebacker next to him, giving the Bills arguably the best linebacker duo in the NFL for their playoff run.

Bernard and the defense are a huge reason why the Bills should be taken seriously as a Super Bowl contender. That side of the ball continues to be a strength, with Bernard serving as a vocal leader, as well as a leader with his play in the biggest moments.
