The New England Patriots have one preseason game remaining and that means that it is the final chance for some players to fight for a spot on the 53-man roster.
There are always some locks to make the roster, but there are other players that, while they have had a solid summer, might still be left out when Tuesday comes.
So here three players considered to be surprise cuts if they don't have a good game on Sunday night.
QB Bailey Zappe
In terms of experience, Bailey Zappe has the advantage over Joe Milton III in the Patriots quarterback room.
But Milton's arm strength and athleticism adds an extra level. Plus, while the team knows what they get with Zappe, Milton remains a question.
The rookie went out in the first preseason game and was very impressive, but wasn't as great in the second game. As for Zappe, he hasn't been able to do anything that has truly set him apart.
Jacoby Brissett is the mentor in the room, while Drake Maye is the future of the franchise. So that leaves one last spot. And based on how things have gone, giving it to Milton might be the better play for the Patriots.
But Zappe absolutely should get an opportunity with another team.
WR Kayshon Boutte
Boutte is someone who is on the bubble at the moment. And while he has a chance to make the roster, there is also a chance that he is cut on Tuesday.
If that's the case and he's not claimed, then Boutte would almost certainly have a spot on the practice squad. He's a solid player and has been the team's lead receiver in the first two preseason games. However, it's a crowded and competitive room.
Plus, he doesn't contribute on special teams, which doesn't help matters.
This one could really go either way at this point, so the game will be very telling.
LB Joe Giles-Harris
Joe Giles-Harris and Christian Elliss are fighting for a spot on the roster right now. And it is a very tight competition.
However, A to Z Sports has Elliss having the slight advantage at the moment. And that means Giles-Harris might not earn a spot on the active roster, but he would be a shoo-in for a practice squad.
They have both had really great summers, so its hard to pick one of them to leave off the roster.
