After a season where the Minnesota Vikings ended up starting four quarterbacks, the third quarterback rule matters in theory more than it would for other teams. The rule where you could elevate a quarterback form the practice squad as the emergency third quarterback was set to go into effect this season.
Ultimately, that won't happen, as the NFLPA has vetoed the rule change.
This is a huge deal when it comes to roster cuts and timing. Coming out the day before roster cuts are set to be finalized is a shocking development.
It also means that the Vikings are significantly more likely to keep quarterback Jaren Hall on the active roster. After an excellent final two preseason games, the Vikings had a big decision to make with Hall and whether or not they want to risk subjecting him to waivers. He had a perfect passer rating against the Cleveland Browns and finished the preseason with the third-best passer rating in the preseason.
Now that you have to have that player on the roster, Hall is almost certainly a lock.
