Patrick Mahomes has been compared to Tom Brady a lot in recent years.
And after the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback won his third Super Bowl championship on Sunday night, the conversations ramped up even more.
However, Mahomes isn't willing to put himself up there with Brady yet.
“To me, it’s always gonna be tough because Brady beat me in the Super Bowl,” Mahomes said after the Chiefs overtime win.
Brady lead the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the Super Bowl during the 2020 season, where they took on Mahomes and the Chiefs. However, the Buccaneers dominated in every facet of the game, ultimately winning 31-9.
This was Mahomes' first Super Bowl appearance, but he only used that to motivated him. After that loss, the Chiefs have won the following three Super Bowls that they have been in.
However, with Brady now retired, Mahomes will never be able to go up against the seven-time Super Bowl champion again and can't redeem himself following that loss.
So the GOAT debate will never truly be settled.
But on paper, Brady still has a big lead in the race.
This was only Mahomes' third championship. He still has a long way to go to reach Brady's seven wins.
"I mean, I’m not even close to halfway, so I haven’t put a lot of thought into it," he said. ""If you ask me that question in 15 years, I’ll see if I can get close to seven. But seven seems like a long way away still."
