The New England Patriots have filled their open spot on the practice squad, bringing back a familiar face.
KPRC2's Aaron Wilson reports that the Patriots have signed T.J. Luther on Tuesday.
Luther previously signed with New England's practice squad on Sept. 1, but was released in the middle of October.
The Patriots were familiar with Luther before originally signing him, after he visited Foxborough in April on a pre-draft visit. But ultimately he was not drafted by any team and went on to sign with the Jets this offseason as an undrafted free agent.
However, he didn't make their 53-man roster
Beginning his college career at Wofford, Luther then transfered to Gardner-Webb. Across his six year career, he was a used at receiver and a kickoff returner, finishing his final season with 55 catches for 1,035 yards and seven touchdowns.
New England is struggling at the receiver position this season, with Kendrick Bourne, who has been their top weapon, forced to miss the rest of the season after tearing his ACL. JuJu Smith-Schuster and Jalen Reagor had opportunities to step up in Sunday's loss to the Washington Commanders, but they both dropped crucial passes (and you can't blame Mac Jones' for those).
With these struggles, if Luther performs well during practice, he has a chance to be elevated prior to the game. And maybe even travel to Germany with the team.
