EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – This game has been on the New York Jets' radar since the schedule was released. And that is because they are hoping to break a long-lasting streak.
The Jets have not beaten the Patriots since December of 2015, having lost 14 straight games to New England. Their last win was over 2,828 days ago, and as Ari Meirov pointed out, Barack Obama was still the President of the United States when the Jets' last win over New England occurred.
And now the Patriots have officially extended that streak to 15 straight games.
FINAL SCORE: Patriots 15, Jets 10
Notable Plays
First Quarter
– After being a healthy scratch during the first two weeks of the season, and started for the Patriots on Sunday. The linebacker makes a big play, tackling Breece Hall for a loss of six yards.
– On the Patriots first drive of the game, Mac Jones was able to convert on third-down, finding Mike Gesicki for an 18-yard gain. However, on the second third-down conversion, his throw to Parker was incomplete.
Chad Ryland's 48-yard field goal attempt was good. For the first time in the 2023 season, the Patriots had the lead in a game. This was also their first first-quarter points of the year.
– Bryce Baringer with a nice punt that pins the Jets on their own six-yard line. On the first play of that drive, Keion White is credited with forcing the fumble after Breece Hall loses the ball, but the running back is able to jump on top of it and New York keeps possession.
But it didn't last long as the Jets went 3-and-out soon after.
Second Quarter
-Ryland attempts another 48-yard field goal, but it's no good. This was his first miss of the season as the ball went wide right.
– The Patriots finally find their way into the end zone after Mac Jones connects with Pharaoh Brown for a 58-yard touchdown. Brown, the Patriots third tight end, spent much of the game at full back. Ryland's extra point is good.
And… that was the longest play of the season so far for the Patriots.
– DTs Davon Godchaux and Daniel Ekuale were on the sidelines receiving attention from the trainers. They were both ruled questionable to return with less than two minutes remaining in the first half. At the start of the second they were downgraded to out.
-Greg Zuerlein nailed a 52-yard field goal for the Jets, finally getting them on the board.
-The Patriots drive down the field with 1:25 remaining on the clock, but a missed defensive pass interference call forces New England to try for a 57-yard field goal. Joe Cardona's snap was high leaving a rough attempt for Ryland.
HALFTIME SCORE: Patriots 10, Jets 3
Third Quarter
-Ryland's 51-yard field goal is good to give the Patriots a 10 point lead.
– Cole Strange appeared to suffer a knee injury and was ruled questionable to return. Rookie Antonio Mafi replaced him.
Fourth Quarter
– The Jets get in the end zone after FB Nick Bawden powers into the end zone after a penalty against the Patriots places New York on the one-yard line.
– TE Hunter Henry went down and was on the turf for a little bit. Athletic trainers came out and he was able to walk off on his own.
-Despite the Jets making a final push, Matthew Judon sacked Zach Wilson in the end zone, giving the Patriots an additional two points and the ball back.
-Zach Wilson has one final chance, sending a Hail Mary into the end zone. While the defense does it's job of swatting it down, Randall Cobb narrowly got his hand on the ball in the end zone, but it was just out of his reach.

Observations:
-In there first three drives of Sunday's game, the Jets had only managed to gain 11 yards on 12 plays.
– Penalties were a problem for the Patriots in the third quarter, picking up two false starts, 12 men on the field, and a personal foul call.
– Whether it was because of the weather or that's just MetLife stadium for you, the white paint in the end zones and in on the center of the field in the logo was getting all over everyone's shoes. Because of that the field was covered in footprints. And it made for some interesting tweets.
