While the New England Patriots coaching staff has appeared to throw their full support behind Mac Jones in recent weeks despite his poor performance, they might have finally seen enough.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Mac Jones is going to have a "short leash" in Sunday's game against the Raiders.
"In fact, a couple rough series and the Patriots may make a change, Rapoport said on NFL GameDay. "Patience is wearing thin."
While Bailey Zappe has replaced Jones during the past two weeks, there is a chance that Will Grier could get some snaps today.
And to top it all off, there is one other name that has got many fans quite excited.
"Then there is Malik Cunningham, the talented, young rookie from Louisville. He was elevated yesterday and signed to a three-year contract. He is now on the roster," Rapoport said. "There is a package of plays for him today and I'd expect them to use him."
Earlier this week, both Bill Belichick and offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien confirmed that Jones was going to be the starting quarterback on Sunday.
Let's see if Jones can prove himself early or if it will be one of the other quarterbacks on the roster who get a chance.
One thing is clear: Sunday's game is surely going to be interesting.
