The Colts signed a former Super Bowl champion to compete for a depth spot on their defensive line
The Indianapolis Colts added depth on their defensive line with a familiar face following them hosting of a large tryout on Tuesday. The team is bringing back edge rusher Derek Rivers, who spent time with the Colts in 2023.
The New England Patriots drafted Rivers with the 83rd pick in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. After spending the majority of his rookie season injured, he returned in the playoffs and was part of the team's 2018 Super Bowl win. Unfortunately, his injury woes wouldn't end after his rookie season, with it following him throughout his NFL career. He has spent time with three NFL teams in the regular season: the Patriots, the Los Angeles Rams, and the Houston Texans. His most recent stop in the NFL, though, was actually with the Colts. He signed to the team's practice squad in December and was placed on the IR after just a week with the team.
To make room for Rivers, the Colts waived safety Kendell Brooks. Brooks first joined the Colts on a reserve/future contract following the 2023 season. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent last season and spent training camp with the team. I was shocked to see the Colts waive Brooks after he made a few solid plays in their preseason opener loss to the Denver Broncos and the team's safety situation being so thin at the moment.
The Indianapolis Colts signed a player from head coach Shane Steichen’s past to replace injured player
Wide receiver is a position group that seems pretty locked up on the Indianapolis Colts roster on paper. But that didn't stop them from adding veteran Greg Ward Jr. following a large tryout they hosted on Tuesday. Ward Jr. signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017 as an undrafted free agent out of Houston. He […]
Colts head coach Shane Steichen shared which player on the team isn’t getting the attention he deserves
Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen joined the Up & Adams show on Tuesday. Host Kay Adams asked Steichen who he believed was the player on his team that doesn't get the credit they deserved, and it didn't take him long to share his answer. Colts safety Julian Blackmon Steichen's answer was safety, Julian Blackmon, and […]
