Injuries are truly the worst part of sports. 

And the Indianapolis Colts saw one of their up-and-coming young stars leave practice on Wednesday, in WR Josh Downs. 

Two trainers helped Downs off the field because he struggled to put weight on his leg. The incident occurred during the team's 7-on-7 period. Colts third-year safety Nick Cross was the defender who tackled Downs, leading to the injury. This action left head coach Shane Steichen visibly upset. 

The Colts drafted Downs with the 79th pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He had a solid rookie season recording 68 receptions for 771 yards and two touchdowns. Doing so, playing with backup Gardner Minshew for the majority of the season. 

Downs has been one of the stars of the Colts 2024 training camp to date. He's drawn compliments from his fellow WRs, QB Anthony Richardson, and even members of the Colts defense. After practice, Coach Steichen shared that it is an ankle injury for Downs, as well as stressing that the team has to be smarter when making contact during these practice sessions.
