Although we're still over a month away from Week 0 of the 2024 college football season, the Heisman Trophy odds shifted this week. Georgia Bulldogs QB Carson Beck was listed as the favorite until now. Oregon Ducks QB Dillon Gabriel is now the outright favorite.

Dillon Gabriel Heisman Trophy Odds Jump

After starting the offseason with the third-highest Heisman odds, Gabriel is now either the outright favorite or tied with Beck to win the award. His odds shifted from +1000 to +750 at FanDuel Sportsbook in recent days. This is an unexpected change with zero games played.

Gabriel has solidified his position as one of the standout quarterbacks in college football, particularly due to his exceptional performance in the previous season. Under the tutelage of Offensive Coordinator Jeff Lebby, Gabriel excelled, amassing 3,660 passing yards and 30 touchdowns with just six interceptions.

Maintaining such a low interception rate is a notable achievement, reflecting Gabriel's precision and decision-making abilities. There is ongoing debate among critics regarding whether Lebby's system inflates quarterback statistics; nonetheless, Gabriel's upcoming season with the Oregon Ducks presents an opportunity to demonstrate his true capabilities.

Moving beyond the quarterback-friendly systems he has been part of, Gabriel now has a prominent platform to validate that his talents are not reliant on a specific system. This forthcoming season is pivotal, not only for Gabriel's Heisman Trophy aspirations but also for cementing his legacy as a versatile and consistently outstanding quarterback.

Ducks fans are eagerly anticipating Gabriel's efforts to surpass expectations and leave his mark.

Carson Beck Heisman Trophy Odds Drop

Beck has been a focal point of attention during this offseason. Whether it's draft analysts predicting him to be the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft or being recognized as the top quarterback in college football, Beck has rightfully received recognition in recent months. However, there has been a shift since the beginning of the offseason.

Leading up to the 2024 college football season, there was a strong belief that Beck and Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers were clear frontrunners for the Heisman Trophy this season. Some betting outlets had them tied for first place, while others gave a slight edge to Beck. However, a new favorite for the Heisman has now emerged.

It's an intriguing development in the Heisman race prior to the start of the season. Preseason odds are just that and hold little weight until the first game of the season is played, but it does provoke an interesting discussion about how the favorite for the first overall pick in the draft can be displaced during the offseason.

There are numerous factors that influence betting odds and their fluctuations, but perhaps Georgia fans should consider taking advantage of these odds as they may not be this favorable again.
