Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney should probably just stay away from cameras at this point.
Because it seems like every time Swinney is in front of a camera, he manages to go viral in ways that a college football coach never wants to go viral.
If Swinney isn't putting his foot in his mouth while discussing the NCAA transfer portal/NIL deals, he's redefining the word "cringe" by taking his cringe factor to new levels.
The latest example came this week when Swinney appeared to forget four-star offensive tackle Brayden Jacobs name.
Jacobs, the son of former NFL running back Brandon Jacobs, is the No. 12 offensive tackle in the nation (it's fair to call him an elite recruit). And he was at Clemson recently for an official visit.
During the visit, Jacobs was filming a video where Swinney jumps in at the end while holding a football. There's an awkward pause where Swinney appears to forget Jacobs' name. Swinney also calls him a five-star recruit, even though he's rated by all of the major services as a four-star recruit.
I'm not sure what kind of spell Swinney puts recruits under to get some of these kids to commit. But whatever it is, it seems to work.
Swinney, though, is having to work a little harder these days on the recruiting trail. The NIL era combined with the emergence of programs like Tennessee has made recruiting a bit more of a challenge for Clemson than it has been in recent years.
The NFL has the absolute perfect scenario already in place for Texas QB Arch Manning
Maybe it’ll play out that way
