The New England Patriots have not been silent on their intent to extend star running back Rhamondre Stevenson this offseason. And the team wasted no time, getting a deal done soon after the end of mandatory minicamp.
It was a great deal for both sides, with Stevenson getting the money he rightly deserves, while the Patriots get a team-friendly deal and get to keep the running back for another four years.
The deal made Stevenson the sixth highest paid RB by total contract value, the seventh by average annual value, and the seventh by total guaranteed money.
But looking at it from the per-year basis, let's get into how his new deal compares to the rest of the NFL running back contracts.
1. Christian McCaffrey: $19M
2. Alvin Kamara: $15M
3. Jonathan Taylor: $14M
4. Saquon Barkley: 12.583M
5. Josh Jacobs: $12M
6. Joe Mixon: $9.875M
7. Rhamondre Stevenson: $9M
And here's the running backs who make more than him in total guaranteed money:
- Saquon Barkley
- Christian McCaffrey
- Bijan Robinson
- Jonathan Taylor
- Jahmyr Gibbs
- Alvin Kamara
The Patriots also worked incentives into the contract, adding an additional $3M annually in upside incentives. If he hits everything listed, Stevenson will have the opportunity to make a total of $48M.
Here is a breakdown of how much he can make each season based on performance:
2024 season incentives: NONE ($0)
2025 season incentives: 600k each for scrimmage yards – 1400, 1500, 1600 ($1,800,000) and 600k for Pro Bowl + All-Pro 1st/2nd (1,200,000)
2026 season incentives: 600k each for scrimmage yards – 1400, 1500, 1600 ($1,800,000) and 600k for Pro Bowl + All-Pro 1st/2nd (1,200,000)
2027 season incentives: 600k each for scrimmage yards – 1400, 1500, 1600 ($1,800,000) and 600k for Pro Bowl + All-Pro 1st/2nd (1,200,000)
2028 season incentives: 600k each for scrimmage yards – 1400, 1500, 1600 ($1,800,000) and 600k for Pro Bowl + All-Pro 1st/2nd (1,200,000)
