One Cardinals offensive tackle has a message Kyler Murray will love to hear
One Arizona Cardinals tackle wants to be remembered as one of the greats.
Sometimes, a quarterback is only as good as his offensive line.
Arizona Cardinals offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr., a former first-round pick heading into year two, wants to ensure Kyler Murray isn't worrying about his protection upfront.
"Yeah, I think personally, just Year two, being able to fulfill all of the expectations that I have for myself, expectations that the team has for me being here. My goal ultimately is to be the best tackle in the game," Johnson said Monday on NFL Network's The Insiders.
Johnson allowed 42 pressures and eight sacks playing right tackle last season but didn't allow a sack in his final three games.
Arizona plans to move Johnson to left tackle. The team signed Jonah Williams to play the right tackle, making what Johnson has to say matter that much more.
Murray, looking to return to elite form, needs Johnson to look like the tackle he played like at the tail end of his rookie season. If he does so, with the Cardinals boasting offensive weapons like rookie Marvin Harrison Jr., the offense has a chance to be among the most effective in the league.
For the offense to operate at a high hum, it starts with Johnson and it may end with him, as well.
