The New England Patriots are in a key spot heading into the 2024 NFL Draft. But it's unknown exactly what they will do with that.

However, things have become a little more clear with the latest report.

According to the Athletic's Chad Graff and Jeff Howe, the Patriots know exactly what position they are looking to fill with the No. 3 overall pick.

"The Patriots really want to draft a quarterback with the No. 3 pick," Graff and Howe wrote. "The front office wrapped up its pre-free-agency meetings a week ago and seems to be on the same page that the best way to jump-start this rebuild and yield long-term success is to find a young quarterback in the NFL Draft to build around."

The quarterback position isn't the only issue with the team heading into the 2024 season, but it is clearly one of the biggest holes that needs to be filled.

"The Patriots look at it like this: If you get the rare chance to draft one of the top prospects at the game’s most valuable position, it’s worth taking a big swing even if the surrounding roster isn’t great," Graff and Howe added. "The quarterback position is simply too important to risk passing on one in hopes of maybe landing one a year or two later."

And with Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels currently expected to be the top three quarterbacks to go off the board, any of them would fit in well with the team. At least that's what several NFL executives who are not associated with the Patriots told the Athletic. Especially because they "appear to align with top decision-maker Eliot Wolf’s preferred QB traits."

The Patriots have already met with Maye, Daniels, Williams, J.J. McCarthy, and Bo Nix at the NFL Scouting Combine. And one of them could be the next face of the franchise.

Now all that's left is to make it official.
