For the New England Patriots, the 2024 Draft is more important than ever. And they are in a prime position, currently holding the No. 3 overall pick.
However, it seems Jerod Mayo is open to a potential trade.
"Obviously, quarterback is definitely a priority. With that being said, we're still open to any type of deals that come our way," Mayo said (via ESPN's Mike Reiss).
The Patriots are known for trading down, but with a new head coach, people thought things may be different. But Mayo is willing to listen to offers.
However, with a quarterback being such a high priority, one can assume that it's going to take an extreme offer to get the Patriots to budge.
Among the teams that might be interested are the Minnesota Vikings who have two first round picks at the moment. So with the No. 11 and the No. 23 picks, they are in the position to trade up. But another team could sneak up and try to make a play for the pick.
And if the Patriots ultimately decide to go ahead with it and pass on one of the top quarterback prospects, Jerod Mayo told NFL Network that veteran Jacoby Brissett could be the starter this year.
"A guy like Jacoby, he's a great leader. Everyone loves him. To get him back in the building is definitely helpful for us. And honestly, look, he could absolutely be our starter this year," Mayo said. "We'll have to see. Like I said, we're not dead set at taking a quarterback at No. 3, but we do feel good having a guy like Jacoby ready to go."
