The New England Patriots latest roster move might make a little more sense now.

The team elected to place quarterback Matt Corral on the Reserve/Left Squad list, while also elevating Bailey Zappe to the 53-man roster.

By moving him to this list, Corral is removed from the Patriots 53-man roster, but cannot sign with another team. The Patriots can choose to activate him, but they would first have to clear a roster spot.

However, there seems to be more questions arising with this situation.

Corral was missing from practice on Friday, while also being added to the injury report with a "not injury related" tag. With that, the Boston Herald's Doug Kyed reports that Corral left the Patriots without notice.

Zappe will now serve as the back up to starting quarterback Mac Jones, with Malik Cunningham remaining on the practice squad.

This was one of a number of moves the Patriots made prior to Sunday's season opener, signing Zappe and running back Ty Montgomery along with elevating linebacker Calvin Munson from the practice squad. Cornerback Jack Jone was placed on injured reserve, meaning he will be out for at least the first four games of the season.
