The New England Patriots might have some competition in signing a top free agent… AGAIN.

Ezekiel Elliott visited with the Patriots on Saturday, with the two sides agreeing to remain in contact following his time at Gillette Stadium.

The Athletic's Jeff Howe shined some more light on the situation, reporting that the two sides "discussed contract parameters and there's mutual interest." However, the New York Jets have also shown interest in Elliott, with both teams looking to add a veteran running back to mix. Elliott is expected to weigh his decisions to see which teams is the best fit.

The Jets have yet to set up a meeting with Elliott, but they are scheduled to host Dalvin Cook on Sunday.

The Patriots have also shown interest in Cook, being the betting favorites to land him at one point, but have not set up a visit. Yet, Cook has implied that the Jets or Miami Dolphins are at the top of his list.

But regardless, it is clear that New England wants to add depth to their offense and provide some help for Rhamondre Stevenson.

Elliott was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the first round (fourth overall pick) in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Across his seven years with the Cowboys, Elliott has 8,262 rushing yards and 68 touchdowns across 103 games played. On the receiving side, has has recorded 305 receptions for 2,336 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The Patriots have been looking to add a veteran running back to the mix, having also  worked out free agents Leonard Fournette and former Rams running back Darrell Henderson last week.

While Elliott leaving without a contract seems eerily familiar, let's see if the Patriots can get this deal done in the coming days.
