The New England Patriots certainly had a busy Monday.

On the last day before veterans report to training camp, the Patriots hosted six free agents. And two of them will remain with the team for the foreseeable future.

The latest signing was former San Francisco 49ers 3rd-round pick Jalen Hurd, Jordan Schultz reports.

Being placed on injured reserve for all three years in the league with the 49ers meant the former Baylor star has yet to take an NFL snap.

Prior to transferring to Baylor, Hurd spent three seasons at Tennessee primarily playing as a running back. However, in his first season at Baylor, he spent more time at the receiver position, finishing with 69 receptions for 946 yards and four touchdowns. He also recorded 48 carries for 209 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Across his collegiate career, Hurd rushed for 2,844 yards with 23 touchdowns and finished with 1,438 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.

While he is listed as a receiver, Hurd's experience as a running back could boost the Patriots offense, with New England having been reportedly shopping around for a free agent running back to provide some more depth to the run game.

He is the second signing for the Patriots on Monday, also joining former Navy linebacker Deigo Fagot.

The two will join the rest of the team when they report to the facility tomorrow, with the first open training camp practice to be held on Wednesday.
