Tennessee is back in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2018-19 when the Vols lost to Purdue in overtime.
This time around the Vols take on FAU, a team that ironically advanced to the Sweet 16 in part because they avoided playing Purdue (the Boilermakers lost to Fairleigh Dickinson in the first round, becoming the second No. 1 seed to lose in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament).
FAU head coach Dusty May has already referenced Tennessee's physical playing style, suggesting to reporters that he's going to read up on Australian rugby rules to prepare for the Vols.
Tennessee made it a point to be extremely physical against Duke in the second round. I'd expect the same approach in the matchup against FAU.
The Vols have the more talented roster and it seems like they're hitting their stride despite not having point guard Zakai Zeigler (out for the year with a torn ACL). If the officials let the two teams play without getting whistle happy, this should be a game where Tennessee cruises. If the whistle isn't kind to the Vols, Tennessee should still win — the game might just be a little tighter.
