The Green Bay Packers have taken a step back in the 2023 offseason. While the team itself hasn’t had much to smile about over the last few months, one national media outlet believes the Packers could be one of the NFL’s surprise teams in the upcoming season.
Sports Illustrated’s Conor Orr recently released an article titled 100 bold predictions for the 2023 NFL season. Packers fans won’t have to scroll too far to find a pleasantly surprising prediction from SI.
Checking in at No. 4 on the list was this optimistic take on Green Bay’s 2023 campaign:
From SI: The Packers will win 10 games
“This isn’t an Aaron Rodgers take. This is a Matt LaFleur, Jordan Love and Brian Gutekunst take. I think it’s very possible that, in the weak-kneed NFC North, we’ll have a pair of teams with double-digit wins. In this case, the Packers and the Lions. One reason? The Packers’ schedule is not a gantlet by any stretch of the imagination. Green Bay is 24th in opponent strength of schedule and plays only one team coming off a bye. The Packers have three short weeks, which is a lot, but is less punishing when your quarterback is under 25.”
Ten wins would undoubtedly be considered a massive success in Jordan Love’s first season as the full-time starter. Though the Lions are expected to take a jump, expectations aren’t as high for the Vikings and Bears.
The Packers have flown under the radar for most of the offseason. Perhaps Green Bay will relish in the underdog role after being the team everybody was constantly chasing for the past decade.
