Jaire Alexander’s phenomenal 2022 campaign vaulted the Green Bay Packers’ shutdown cornerback directly into the conversation for the NFL’s top corner. While it’s known that Alexander is among the best at his position, there are a handful of players who also qualify for the No. 1 spot.
Alexander recorded five interceptions and 14 pass deflections in 2022. His ability to completely flip a game’s momentum was recognized with his second Pro Bowl appearance and Second-Team All-Pro nod.
Pro Football Focus recently released a list which ranks the top 32 cornerbacks currently playing. Alexander checks in at No. 5 on the list, which is just about right.
From PFF: "Alexander bounced back in 2022 having missed the majority of the year before with injury. Last season, he allowed just a 66.2 passer rating when targeted, earning an 82.1 PFF coverage grade in the process. Alexander also set a new career high with five interceptions and is still just entering the prime of his career at 26 years old."
For Alexander to already be nearing the top of this list is an incredible accomplishment at just 26 years old. Entering his sixth season in the league, he will have an opportunity build on an exceptional 2022 campaign and firmly assert himself as the best cover corner the NFL has to offer.
The Packers have been mostly ignored outside of the Aaron Rodgers trade this offseason. But budding superstars such as Alexander are exactly why Green Bay can’t be counted out in a weak NFC North.
