It’s not every day that an Olympics legend breaks news related to the NFL, but that’s exactly what happened when four-time gold medalist Simone Biles announced the Green Bay Packers had signed her husband, Jonathan Owens.
Owens spent his first four seasons in the NFL playing safety for the Houston Texans. An undrafted free agent out of Missouri Western State, Owens made a name for himself in Houston.
He played mostly rotationally in his first three years with the Texans, but he stated all 17 games for Houston in 2022. Owens finished second on the team with 125 total tackles last season. He also registered one sack and four passes defensed.
Owens, 27, will get a chance to carve out a starting role for himself in Green Bay. Outside of Darnell Savage, the Packers lack talent at the safety position. Owens is set to join a group consisting of Savage, Rudy Ford, Innis Gaines, Tarvarius Moore, Dallin Leavitt, James Wiggins and rookies Anthony Johnson Jr. and Benny Sapp.
