The Packers are taking a closer look at East Carolina RB Keaton Mitchell. The Draft Network’s Justin Melo reports Green Bay recently met with the dual-threat dynamo ahead of the draft.
Interestingly enough, Mitchell is the only running back the Packers brought in for a top 30 visit. After watching his college tape it’s easy to see why Green Bay is drawn to him.
Not only did Mitchell rush for 1,452 yards and 14 touchdowns on 201 carries in 2022, but he also added 27 receptions for 252 receiving yards and a score. Altogether, Mitchell racked up 1,704 yards from scrimmage with the Pirates last season.
Not only does Mitchell have one of the most explosive highlight reels at his position, but his performance at the combine dropped jaws across the NFL.
Mitchell ran a 4.37 40-yard dash at the annual event held in Indianapolis. His 10-ft-6 broad jump only reassured what scouts saw on the field in 2022, as he has emerged as one of the draft class’ sleeper prospects.
If you blinked, you missed him.
The Packers currently have four running backs on the roster, but behind Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon are two unproven backs in Patrick Taylor and Tyler Godson.
Mitchell makes for a late-round steal after the Packers use their top picks on positions with more pressing needs. Green Bay has 10 picks in the draft at this point, though that number could grow after Aaron Rodgers is traded. Mitchell possesses qualities not often found in running backs, which makes him worth a late flier if he’s available.
