Welcome to the modern era of college football. What was nearly impossible a decade ago has been made possible as fringe five star quarterback Matt Zollers has committed to Eliah Drinkwitz and Missouri football! He turned down Alabama, Georgia, and his two leading in-state programs Penn State and Pittsburgh to join the Tigers of Mizzou.

As Tom Loy of 247 Sports reported earlier this week, Missouri had made it clear to Zollers that he was the only quarterback they were targeting in the 2025 recruiting class and that seems to have been the difference in getting his commitment.

Zollers had been quickly rising up recruiting boards, garnering attention from all the top programs around the country for months following his dominant junior season. He threw 37 passing touchdowns to just two interceptions on the year while also adding over 400 yards and seven scores on the ground. He's a true dual threat that should fit right in against top SEC competition.

Which programs were truly in the mix?

According to Zollers, as we outlined just yesterday, it was down to Missouri, Georgia, Alabama, Penn State, and Pittsburgh. But when reps from both 247Sports and On3 asked him about who was truly in contention down the stretch? It was apparently mainly just Georgia and Missouri.

Alabama did make a late surge as he visited with them earlier this week, but the longstanding relationships and efforts from Georgia and Missouri's coaching staffs stood above the rest.

Zollers should immediately slide in as the heir apparent to Brady Cook for Missouri with a real chance to start as a true freshman in 2025. If Zollers holds true to his commitment and signs with Missouri he will officially be the highest rated quarterback recruit in the modern college football recruiting era to sign with the Tigers.

Kirby Smart and Georgia now likely pivot fully towards bringing in four star quarterback Ryan Montgomery from Ohio. Kalen DeBoer and Alabama likely now focus fully on Antwann Hill from Warner Robins, Georgia.
