Head coach Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame football received a massive addition to the 2027 recruiting class on Thursday when Kennesaw (Ga.) North Cobb quarterback Teddy Jarrard opted for the Fighting Irish over Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan, and Penn State. It was another outstanding early victory for the class along with linebacker Ellis McGaskin.
After the commitment of Jarrard was announced, X went ablaze with excitement. That included another Notre Dame target in the 2027 class, Crowley (Texas) High School wide receiver Antayvious Ellis.
Whenever a program gains an early commitment from this caliber of quarterback, it’s an easy sell to offensive skill position talent in general. Ellis is included in that, which is a great early sign from an extremely talented pass catcher from the state of Texas.
Notre Dame has made quite the impact with Lone Star wideouts in recent years. That includes Jaden Greathouse, who could end up being the top wide receiver for the Fighting Irish in 2025. The 2026 class also had two massive victories in the state as well from Kaydon Finley and Brayden Robinson, and continuing that momentum would be huge.
Ellis is currently considered a four-star player on the 247Sports Composite ranking. They have him rated as the No. 306 overall player and No. 40 wide receiver in the 2027 recruiting class. He is also pegged as the No. 40 player in the state of Texas, an area that produces college talent as well as anyone.
A long list of impressive programs have already begun to pursue Ellis. Some of his top offers include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Texas, Oregon, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Ole Miss, USC, Miami, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Arkansas, Arizona State, Texas Tech, TCU, Oklahoma State, SMU, Pittsburgh, Arizona, Baylor, Washington State, Duke, Kansas, and Houston among several others.
As a sophomore, Ellis put together a tremendous season for Crowley. In 13 games, Ellis managed to haul in 55 receptions for 794 yards and 11 touchdowns. The 6-0, 175-pound pass catcher also averaged 14.4 yards per reception, showing the ability to win at multiple levels of the field.
