Hailee Steinfeld has to be thrilled after Bills’ Josh Allen jumps into action and saves the day during a live TV interview
Another incredible moment from Josh Allen.
While he didn’t play in the team’s second preseason contest against the Chicago Bears, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen still found a way to save the day, well … sort of. During an interview with Fox NFL senior correspondent Pam Oliver, Allen quickly leaped into action, embracing and protecting Oliver when on-field chaos spilled onto their sideline.
This is yet another example of his contributions both on and off the football field. Hailee Steinfeld has to be thrilled getting to witness it firsthand. What’s more, the quarterback opened up on what their relationship means to him after everything had calmed down.
“I mean, to have the support that I do at home, and to have someone that I share similar life interests with and wants in life, it’s an awesome feeling. To support someone as much as she supports me, I’m very happy.”
The King and Queen of Buffalo
Allen and Steinfeld are a better combination than chicken wings and bleu cheese, and the Bills Mafia has adored their relationship since it began. In May 2023, rumors started swirling of the couple being an item after first being spotted together in New York City.
When the pair made the engagement official on social media, it was met with an overflow of love and support for the two from fans and non-fans of the NFL. Then, during a romantic garden ceremony in Santa Barbara, California, the couple got married in May 2025.
On what makes the two so special, Sophie Weller of A To Z Sports weighed in on the superstar couple. “Steinfeld has been by Allen’s side through his trials and tribulations throughout the past season. She got to see him win his first NFL MVP, but also watched as his season ended early, with the Bills falling just short of the Super Bowl once again. But all of that was out of sight, out of mind when he got to marry his best friend, which he described as “the best night of my life” during an episode of ‘Hard Knocks.’”
MVP in more ways than one
Allen has proven his leadership in critical moments. More than once, he put on his proverbial cape during the 2024 season to help lead his team to victory. The MVP is looking to build on an already impressive resume in hopes of bringing the Lombardi Trophy back to Buffalo.
With his eighth NFL season rapidly approaching, Oliver asked, “All we know is you’re a great quarterback. Last year really proved that with the MVP. Tell us some of the things you’re determined to do in year eight?”
A fitting response from the Bills franchise quarterback, “Continue to go out there and learn and enjoy the game. Play the best that I can play, be the best quarterback that I can be, be the best teammate that I can be. Every year, I feel like I’m learning things. Just going out there and trying to apply those things.”
“I was not trying to be sideline roadkill.”
That’s when chaos ensued after Oliver began, “An example of learning is what?” Allen was forced to quickly grab the reporter to make sure she was safe with players flying onto their sideline. The Fox reporter was quick to offer praise, “Thank you, I was not trying to be sideline roadkill.”
While the 38-0 blowout loss was ugly, the next question from Oliver may have been even uglier. Pulling a complete 180, she added, “To the dismay of a lot of fans, they didn’t feel like the Bills addressed your side of the ball during the draft, went more defense. What’s your assessment of the job that was done during the draft, and were you looking for more?”
After more than enough time in the league, Allen was the ultimate professional. “Listen, I trust our front office, I trust our coaching staff to develop the talent we have here. All I have to do is focus on going out there and getting it to the right people. Whoever’s open, that’s my job. Make sure our offense is rolling on all cylinders, that’s all I’m trying to do.”
Without throwing a single pass, Allen ended up on the highlight reel anyway. Weller put everything into perspective. “All the focus is always on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, with those two being the celebrity couple of the NFL. But Steinfeld and Allen’s relationship is also one that deserves to be celebrated and talked about. They are so in love and don’t care who knows it.”
