Bills forced to use medical cart after All-Pro defender goes down with injury just weeks ahead of regular season
Not great, Bob.
The preseason hasn’t been too kind to the Buffalo Bills in terms of injuries. On Thursday, former All-Pro cornerback Tre’Davious White was injured at the end of practice, and while he was able to limp to the tunnel with a trainer, a cart arrived to assist him. It occurred during the 11-on-11 portion of practice, and he reportedly needed two teammates’ help to get off the field. The severity of White’s injury is unclear at the time of publication.
The injury comes after Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Bobby Babich was gushing about White during his media availability on Wednesday.
“There is flashes of that Tre White in there still that we know,” Babich had said. “So there’s a couple things that we got to make sure that, he ties the bow on. But again, we just want to continue to see him grow here back in the system.”
Tre White back to Buffalo
White returned to Buffalo in April on a one-year deal worth up to $6.8 million. During his seven years with the Bills prior, he appeared in 82 games with 18 interceptions, three sacks, and 68 passes defended. He spent the 2024 season on both the Los Angeles Rams and Baltimore Ravens, appearing in 11 total games with four games started, five passes defended, and 12 combined tackles.
Buffalo had high hopes when they drafted first-round pick Maxwell Hairston in the 2025 NFL Draft, but injuries have kept him off the field, with many rumoring that he’ll be placed on the IR to start the season with a designated to return tag. Nevertheless, the Bills’ starting corner opposite Christian Benford has been White throughout camp. While we don’t know the severity of the injury, we do know who the next man up would be on the defense.
Current depth at cornerback
The Bills currently have Dane Jackson, Dorian Strong, Daequan Hardy and Ja’Marcus Ingram on the unofficial depth chart behind Benford, Hairston, and White. With a particularly bad outing in the preseason contest against the Bears, it’s not surprising that the Bills Mafia is more than a little worried about what White’s injury could mean long-term.
While White was injured toward the end of practice, before even beginning, the team announced a slew of players who would either be limited or miss practice altogether. An unfortunate trend that’s continued throughout the preseason and training camp.
With just one preseason game remaining and many more questions than answers, all eyes are going to be on One Bills Drive with how they continue to navigate this almost impossible situation.
