The Green Bay Packers have announced the six inactive players for Week 1 right before playing the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field. And the list is more important because of the names that are not on it. Edge defender Micah Parsons and wide receiver Jayden Reed are officially active and ready to play. However, cornerback Nate Hobbs is inactive due to his knee injury.

Parsons was always expected to play in some capacity, even though he’s likely to be on a snap count. Nonetheless, Fox’s Jay Glazer reported that Parsons will still be expected to move around the defense in terms of alignment.

Safety Zayne Anderson (knee) and edge defender Barryn Sorrell (knee) are also out. The healthy inactives are guard Donovan Jennings, tight end Ben Sims, and defensive tackle Warren Brinson.

Impactful pieces

Wide receiver Jayden Reed is recovering from a Jones fracture, but he is still available after practicing on Thursday and Friday. Fellow receivers Dontayvion Wicks (calf) and Savion Williams (hamstring) were listed as questionable to play, but they are active.

Meanwhile, Hobbs is still recovering from a minor knee surgery he underwent in early August. The expectation was that he would return in three weeks, but it’s been almost five, and he’s not fully healthy. On Saturday, the Packers elevated rookie cornerback Micah Robinson from the practice squad as a way of adding depth to the secondary and special teams.

Without Hobbs, the Packers will start Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine at cornerback, with safety Javon Bullard as the nickel. But that exposes the Packers’ depth problems at the position after not investing much there throughout the offseason. Hobbs, the main addition, missing the first game is a significant blow.

Other side

Tackle Jamarco Jones (ankle, later moved to IR), linebacker Trevor Nowaske (elbow), and running back Sione Vaki (hamstring) had already been ruled out on Friday.
