Washington Commanders receive the Jayden Daniels injury news they’ve been waiting on for weeks ahead of Chargers matchup
We finally have an update on Jayden Daniels’ knee.
The Washington Commanders are preparing to hit the road for Week 5 of the season to take on the Los Angeles Chargers.
Injuries have been the biggest headline over the last two weeks, especially since franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a knee sprain, and Marcus Mariota had to take over as the starter, leading the team to a 1-1 record.
Everyone can take a deep breath, as we learned today that Daniels is officially back at practice on a full basis.
Jayden Daniels is officially back
Daniels was held out last week against the Atlanta Falcons for the second straight game, as he wasn’t cleared by the team doctors yet. You can tell he has been itching to get back on the field, and his time has finally come. Head coach Dan Quinn spoke to the media today and said that Daniels has been cleared and will be back as QB1 at practice.
“Also said give you an update on Jayden,” Quinn said. “He has been medically cleared by the doctors. He’ll practice fully today. First off, to put the work in and say, ‘Okay, I’ve got to do all the things to do to get better,’ and then once you kind of get over the top of that, then throw in the movements to go. So that’s what we saw, in terms of the work to get better.”
The expectations for Jayden Daniels this week
Even with Daniels back at practice, Quinn, of course, hasn’t said that he will play on Sunday, even though that’s clearly the expectation. He was asked what he’s looking for in the next 48 hours with Daniels, to name him the starter on Sunday.
“He’ll get all the reps at the practice,” Quinn added. “So we’ll be back at full speed, the execution, the timing, all of that. That’s really what I’m looking for. But he’s definitely chomping at the bit to get going. So for just running the offense, being back to himself, that was our discussion today, to make sure, man, like all the looks, all the calls, and the speed of the practice.”
Daniels is wearing a brace on his left knee, and we aren’t sure if he will wear one in the game or not. He said last week that he’s never worn one before, so it will be something to get used to, but the best thing to do for precautionary measures.
Quinn will likely announce on Friday if Daniels will be starting against the Chargers for his homecoming game back in California or not, and his progress over the next two days will be the tell-all for how comfortable he looks as he ramps back into football shape.
