The Washington Commanders’ loss to the Kansas City Chiefs showed that they need their franchise quarterback playing to help mask roster flaws and take advantage of every drive.

The defense finally made plays in the first half with two interceptions off of Patrick Mahomes, but came away with zero points after the turnovers. The Commanders finally had Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel back, but it still wasn’t enough. The offense only put up seven points, which isn’t enough to keep up with anybody in the league.

Jayden Daniels’ injury will be one of the biggest headlines this week, as the team needs to be cautious while having a season-defining game against the Seattle Seahawks coming up.

Jayden Daniels’ first injury update

The Commanders did the right thing by ruling Daniels out early last week and named Marcus Mariota the starter against the Chiefs. The main focus has been on letting Daniels rehab and get his hamstring injury fully healthy, but we still don’t know if he will be ready by Sunday night. Head coach Dan Quinn gave an update on Tuesday that gives hope of Daniels playing against the Seahawks.

“Yeah, of course, we have a plan,” Quinn said. “So yeah, he had a good rehab session on Sunday. Team is back out at practice tomorrow, and we plan on him being a part of that.”

Getting Daniels back is huge, but the team is also waiting on more information to see if Terry McLaurin reinjured his quad after leaving the game against the Chiefs early and didn’t return. Daniels and McLaurin haven’t played together since Week 2, and the team can’t catch a break. Some people want the team to shut Daniels down, but that isn’t even an option. Of course, the team will be cautious about his injury, so his status is still up in the there for Sunday night, and practice this week will determine if he can go or not in a must-win game.

Will Daniels play Sunday night vs the Seahawks?

Going into the weekend, it sounded like Daniels could miss another game with his hamstring injury since they usually last a week or two, and the team has been very cautious already this season. NFL insider Adam Schefter said on the Pat McAfee show that he wouldn’t be surprised if the team holds him out another week just to be careful.

We don’t know what the team’s plans are, but protecting Daniels is the top priority this season, with the playoffs well out of reach right now. That doesn’t mean holding him out if he is at 100%, but will he actually be at full health by Sunday night? The Commanders have a short week after playing Monday night, and all eyes will be on Daniels’ practice status this week, along with McLaurin and left tackle Laremy Tunsil.
